Yes, there are rumours doing the rounds that he has hiked the price, but the shocking point of the story is that he has reportedly increased his remuneration after agreeing for a specific amount.
Rumour mills say that Ajith Kumar agreed to act in the movie, which is called by the name Valai, saying that remuneration was secondary to him and he would take whatever he was offered. Producer AM Rathnam had offered him some amount and Thala had accepted it. The actor was also paid half of the remuneration after the completion of the first schedule of the shooting.
By the end of the second schedule, the producer cleared the amount of the actor and settled his due money. In the mean time, the hype around the film and the combo of Ajith-Vishnuvardhan-Nayantara, which had created blockbuster in Billa, generated a lot of buzz in trade circle. The buzz around the film made many distributors to approach the producer to get the distribution rights of various regions. AM Rathnam, without a second thought, started the business process and sold the rights of few regions for a huge price.

The price that was collected from the regions were huge and that made Ajith Kumar, who reportedly took meagre or a less price than his market rate, asked the producer to pay him extra bucks in the form of cash or by giving him the theatrical rights of a particular zone.
However, the sources close to the team have straightly denied the speculations and claimed that it was a handy from those, who are trying to malign Ajith's name.
Ajith Kumar is known as a man who always stood by his producers just like superstar Rajinikanth. In his two-decade history, he has never been accused of being greedy or demanding huge price. As a result, it appears like the speculation is false.
It is well-known that Ajith Kumar and AM Rathnam were supposed to work in a film before, but the project was shelved after their fallout over their differed stand on a particular issue related to the Tamil films.
