Bharathiraja Reveals Kamal-Rajinikanth's Remunerations
Legendary stars Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth, who are good friends, were aggressively competing at one point of time. Well, but today, they are not the same any more. It is also not suprising that the Unviersal Star was getting a better pay than the superstar. All these things were revealed at the press meet of 16 Vayathinile.
"Rajinikanth and I used to release our films almost every Friday in the 1980s but not anymore. Today, we have slowed down, not because of our age, but because of budget constraints. We can't afford to have the release of our big budget films on the same day," Kamal Hassan told reporters here.
16 Vayathinile has been digitally restored and a press meet of the same movie was organised on Friday (October 5). It was made in 1977 and the movie starred Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth and Sridevi in the lead roles. The Endhiran actor was seen in the negative character in the superhit flick.

Kamal Got Rs, 27,000
Bharathiraja said that the movie bosses had paid Rs.27,000 to Kamal Hassan to star in the film 16 Vayathinile.
Rajinikanth Asked Rs 5,000
When it comes to Rajinikanth, the actor wanted Rs 5,000. But they promised him of giving Rs 3,000.
Rajinikanth Got Rs 2,500
In the end, Rajinikanth was paid on Rs 2,500."Kamal Hassan was paid Rs.27,000 to star in the film. Rajinikanth wanted Rs.5,000, but I convinced him for Rs.3,000 and eventually paid only Rs.2,500. Budget was a big constraint for all of us back then," the director said at the event.
Padaharella Vayasu In Telugu
Industry members such as filmmaker Bhagyaraj and actor-filmmaker Parthepan were also present at the event. The film was remade in Telugu as Padaharella Vayasu with Chandra Mohan, Mohan Babu and Sridevi in the lead.
16 Vayathinile Marked Debut Of Bharathiraja
16 Vayathinile was the debut movie of Bharathiraja as a director. The movie met with a strong critical reception.
175 Day Run
The movie also market the debut of comedian Goundamani. The film became a blockbuster and completed a 175-day run at the Box Office.
Awards
16 Vayathinile won four State Awards and one each in the South Filmfare Awards and National Film Awards ceremonies.
