Bollywood director Rohit Shetty, who recently made Chennai Express starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, has acquired the remake rights of the hit movie Soodhu Kavvum. The filmmaker had seen the movie recently and he was reportedly impressed with the content of the Tamil flick.
He is turning independent producer with the remake of Soodhu Kavvum. Rohit Shetty is jointly producing the movie with well-known Kannada producer Rockline Venkatesh. It will be made on Rohit Shetty Entertainment Pvt Ltd. The agreement on the same was signed on Thursday (October 10).
UTV Motion Pictures, Fox Movies and Endemol India were also in the race to buy the rights. But it was in the end, Rohit Shetty's production house, which successfully won the bid by quoting a huge price.
Sources say that Rockline Venkatesh, who has the remake rights of the Kannada version too, played the key role in convincing Rohit Shetty to accept the offer. There are many names doing rounds for the lead role. But the makers of the movie are tight-lipped about the cast.
It is reported that Imran Khan, the nephew of Bollywood's perfectionist Aamir Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor are likely to star in the Soodhu Kavvum remake. Continue reading the story on the slideshow...
Rohit Shetty is reportedly considering Kannada superstar Sudeep (Naan Ee fame) to play the lead role, which was played by Vijay Sethupathi in the original.
The director is changing the script to suit the taste of Bollywood audience. Currently, he is busy penning the script of Singham 2.
Tamil Singam 2
It has to be noted that Rohit Shetty is not remaking the Tamil version of Singam 2. The first instalment in the Hindi was the remake of Singam.
Well, reports also say that if Rohit Shetty could not helm the project, the Hindi version of Soodhu Kaavum could be directed by Shimit Amin of Chak De India fame.
Soodhu Kaavum Cast
Soodhu Kavvum was directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. The black-comedy starred Vijay Sethupathi, Sanchita Shetty, Radha Ravi, Ashok Selvan and others in the cast.
The movie was released on May 1. It has become one of the superhits of 2013.
