Tamil Actress Manjula Vijay Kumar Passed Away

Tamil actress Manjula Vijay Kumar passed away in Chennai today (July 23). The actress died at the SRMC hospital. She was 59.

"She was admitted to Sri Ramchandra Medical College (SRMC) a week ago after she suffered a severe fall in her house. She was undergoing treatment for this and two days back was diagnosed with jaundice," a source close to the family said.

Manjula is survived by husband and three daughters. She is the spouse of popular Tamil actor and politician Vijay Kumar and two of her daughters Sridevi and Preetha have sizzled as heroines in Kollywood earlier.

Manjula made her debut in Shanthi Nilayam in 1969. She played in a supporting role (as the teenage girl of Gemini Ganesan's character). Her first lead role was in Rickshawkaran in 1971 starring MG Ramachandran.

She was the most liking actress to play female lead roles in late 70's movies. She acted alongside with the veteran actors like Gemini Ganesan, Sivaji Ganesan, MG Ramachandran, NTR, Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, Vishnuvardhan, Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth.

She had starred in over 100 films in her three-decade long career.
