Anirudh-Andrea Have Done Fabulous Job: Vivek-Mervin

By Ramchander

Vivek Siva and Mervin Solomon, the music directors duo, has started their journey in films with Vadacurry. The Tamil film has garnered good attention from audience and media. The musicians have opened up about themselves in an interview.

Tell us about yourselves.. (education, background etc.)
Vivek - I did my schooling in PSBB and went on to pursue a degree in commerce and law.I learnt the carnatic mandolin and eventually became interested in programming and sound engineering. I have worked with Anirudh Ravichander in his movies from 3 till Maan Karate.

Mervin Solomon - I am a trained classical pianist certified by the London Trinity. A student of vis com from the MCC college, I have performed with a host of singers in bands. I turned into a music programmer for various independent music albums. We both were in the same band Zinx along with "Kolaveri" fame Anirudh.

How did you bag Vadacurry? Who gave you the opportunity?
It was a pure accident but turned out to be a whirlwind ride. Anirudh informally asked Vivek if we could take up the project and we agreed instantly. It was a dream come true for us as it happened like a wish in fairy tales!

How was the experience working in the movie. Can you pick the best songs from your album?
It has been a great experience so far with such a supportive team. We have always wanted to experiment with sounds and tunes and there was freedom to do it. Moreover, we have recorded so many live music and the orchestra to give it that organic and earthy feel. Our favourite composition would be 'Nenjukkulle nee' and 'Ullangakayil ennai'.

How was it working for the Sunny Leone song. Were you thrilled to compose the first tamil song featuring the adult actress?
Definitely yes. Especially because she has become such a rage in the North and this would be her debut down south. This was the first song that was composed and we had to complete the song in one day time. The tune and the lyrics were all done and we got our two very special friends to sing in it (Anirudh and Andrea Jeremiah). They have done a fabulous job and it should be a treat to the audience.

What are your favourite genres? What kind of music/musicians inspire you?
Everything. Since both of us come from different musical backgrounds, we tend to listen to so much of varied genres-electronic, classical, dubstep, jazz, fusion, etc. Our favourite musicians would be AR Rahman, Ilayaraja sir, Shankar Mahadevan, Skrillex & Dream Theatre. It tells you the diversity that we enjoy listening!

Tell us about your future projects?
We have been receiving good number of offers but everything is on hold till Vadacurry releases. We are taking time to listen to scripts and be part of interesting projects.
