Saagar is a 1985 Bollywood film directed by Ramesh Sippy. Apart from being an official entry into The Oscars from India, the movie also gave Kamal Haasan his Filmfare Award for Best Actor after being nominated for both Best Actor as well as Best Supporting Actor which was only the second instance in the history of Filmfare Awards.

Swati Mutyam

Swati Mutyam was directed by K. Viswanath and had Kamal Haasan and Raadhika in the lead roles. The movie had a silver jubilee run across India and made it to Oscars in the year 1986. It was also critically acclaimed and portrayed Kamal Haasan as an autistic person.

Nayagan

Nayagan was a trend setter at its time. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie was Kamal Haasan's third consecutive entry into Oscars. The movie was also included in the list of "All-Time 100 Best Films" by TIME magazine in 2005 and in The Moving Arts Film Journal's list of greatest films of all time.

Thevar Magan

This film saw the collaboration of two greatest Tamil actors of all time, Sivaji Ganesan and Kamal Haasan. Directed by Bharathan, the film, apart from winning 5 National Awards, made it to the 65th Academy Awards and also completed a 175-day run at the box office.

Kuruthipunal

This film too was a trend setter for action films at the time of its release and was directed by the veteran cinematographer P. C. Sreeram. The film was celebrated for its critical acclaim and made it to the 68th edition of Oscars.

Indian was directed by Shankar and saw Kamal Haasan excel in two distinctively unique roles. The film won 3 National Awards and represented India at the Oscars in the year 1996. The movie was also the most expensive Tamil movie at that time.

Hey Ram

This period drama masterpiece was directed by Kamal Haasan and was considered for nomination in the Best Foreign Film category for the year 2000 at the Oscars. Though the movie did not do well at the box office, it is viewed even today with a sense of awe.
