Rajinikanth, Vijay's Star Power Fails To Work For Narendra Modi?

By Ramchander
BJP's
Prime
Ministerial
candidate
Narendra
Modi's
meetings
with
Rajinikanth
and
Vijay
were
given
much
importance
by
cine
fraternity
and
politcal
pundits.
It
was
believed
that
the
saffron
party
would
gain
something
from
the
meeting.
Now,
it
appears
like
the
meeting
had
little
impact
on
the
polls.
At
least,
the
exit
polls
reveal
it.
In
separate
meetings,
Narendra
Modi
had
met
Rajinikanth
and
Vijay
last
month
before
the
state
went
for
polls.
Both
the
actors'
had
told
that
it
was
not
a
political
meeting
and
critics
should
not
read
much
to
it.
However,
political
observers
did
not
downplay
the
significance
of
their
meet
with
the
Gujarat's
Chief
Minister
and
said
that
it
had
a
message
to
their
huge
fans
following.
It
was
not
suprising
to
see
Rajinikanth's
fans
club
at
some
parts,
though
unofficially,
supported
Narendra
Modi.
Knowing
that
the
Tamil
superstar
was
close
to
Narendra
Modi,
many
of
his
followers
claimed
that
they
would
vote
for
the
BJP's
candidates
this
time.
On
the
other
end,
the
BJP
did
not
lose
any
opportunity
to
gain
from
Modi-Rajini
meet
as
the
party
at
various
parts
claimed
that
the
Tamil
superstar
was
supporting
the
saffron
party
this
time
and
displayed
used
their
photos
during
the
campaign
.

Expectations
Many
had
expected
that
Rajinikanth's
huge
fan
base
would
turn
into
votes
for
the
BJP.
And
surveys
had
given
around
six
to
12
seats
after
the
meeting.
Rajinikanth-Vijay
Fans
And
on
the
other
end,
Vijay
fans
openly
supported
Modi
on
social
media
sites
that
they
would
vote
for
the
BJP
this
time.
As
a
retaliation
to
the
ruling
AIADMK,
which
had
unofficially
created
troubles
during
Vijay's
Thalaivaa
release,
the
Illayathalapathy
fans
wanted
to
support
the
saffron
party.
Secret
Support
And
the
fans
club
of
Vijay
had
secretly
supported
the
BJP
at
some
parts
of
Tamil
Nadu.
While
Rajinikanth
had
met
Modi
on
April
13
at
his
Pose
Garden
residence
in
Chennai,
the
Illayathalapathy
met
the
BJP's
Prime
Ministerial
candidate
at
Coimbatore
on
April
17.
Failed
To
Work
However,
the
disappointing
news
for
the
BJP
is
that
the
two
meetings
seem
to
have
failed
to
work
in
favour
of
it,
which
was
expecting
to
increase
its
tally
this
time.
The
exit
polls
clearly
reveals
that
the
saffron
party's
dream
to
score
big
in
Tamil
Nadu
is
not
happening
as
Jayalalitha's
AIADMK
is
emerging
as
the
big
winner.
Rajinikanth-Vijay
Disappoints
Modi
She
is
expected
to
win
around
27-31
seats
with
the
BJP
and
its
alliance
only
getting
four
to
six
seats.
It
means
the
Rajinikanth
and
Vijay's
star
power
have
failed
to
work
in
the
state.
