Selling Your Vote Is Like Selling Your Self Respect: Kamal Hassan

Kamal Hassan is part of a campaign against cash for votes. The Tamil Nadu state election commission has roped in the Universal Star to encourage public participation in the world's biggest democratic exercise.

A video of Kamal Hassan conveying his message has been shot in Tamil and English and released to media. In the short video, the actor says that selling your votes is like selling your self respect. One should take part in the electoral process without fear and cast vote according to his/her conscious.

Kamal Hassan says, "Remember. Selling your vote is like selling your self respect. Vote without fear. Vote for democracy. Vote according to your conscious. Jai hind." The clip will be telecast in Arasu cable and other private cable networks across the state. It will also be played in film theatres.

Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar has said that public should not take money from politicians to cast their votes. Both paying and receiving are punishable offence. Apart from Kamal Hassan, the state election commission has roped in cricketer Dinesh Karthik for the same.
