News

By Ramchander
Jilla
has
emerged
as
the
biggest
winner
at
the
Box
Office
in
the
first
month
of
2014.
The
Vijay's
star
power
has
worked
big
time
again
for
his
movie.
Despite
facing
a
huge
competition
and
garnering
mixed
reviews,
the
flick
has
made
highest
collection
at
collection
centres.
The
Tamil
film
was
opened
up
to
huge
expectations
for
Pongal.
Like
Vijay's
earlier
movies,
Jilla
was
not
publicised
much.
Nonetheless,
the
film
managed
to
pull
heavy
crowds
in
the
theatres.
The
movie
directly
clashed
with
Ajith
Kumar's
Veeram
on
January
10
and
emerged
as
the
biggest
winner
of
the
month,
which
had
more
than
15
Tamil
releases.
Whether
the
makers
of
the
film
promoted
the
film
aggressively
or
not,
Jilla
was
considered
red
hot
in
trade
circles.
It
was
evident
when
the
film
did
stupendous
business
through
various
distribution
rights
and
other
rights.
The
distribution
rights
alone
fetched
Rs
34
crores
for
the
Jilla
producer.
There
was
huge
demand
for
the
theatrical
rights
of
the
film
for
Chennai
and
NSC
(North
Arcot,
South
Arcot
-
Chengalpet),
which
were
sold
for
record
prices.
As
it
was
a
Pongal
release,
distributors
thought
it
was
worth
the
investment.
Hence,
the
film
made
record
turn
overs
among
various
sectors
of
the
business.
