Can Vijay's Jilla Break His Own Thuppaki's Box Office Records?

By Ramchander

Tamil Movie goers will be having a blast this Pongal with the simultaneous releases of two big films. After a long time, a Vijay's movie is clashing with an Ajith Kumar's film and hopes and wishes have reached sky high for the success of these films. Not to forget, the number games on the collections of the flicks have also begun.

More importantly, all eyes are on Vijay, who is the only actor after Rajinikanth to have registered his name in Rs 100-crore club in Kollywood. His 2012 movie Thuppakki had become the landmark film in his career as it made more than Rs 100 crores at the Tamil Box Office. The feat is only next to Rajini, whose Endhiran and Sivaji had made more than 100 crores (nett) at the collection centres.

Its gross collections had crossed Rs 100 crores in just two weeks. The nett collection of Rs 100 crores was crossed in 40+ days after its release and reportedly made Rs 180 crores (gross). Now, traders are posing the question - Can Vijay break his own record?

Traders have their fingers crossed as there is a tight competition between his latest movie Jilla and Ajith Kumar's Veeram. And also there is Mahesh Babu's 1: Nenokkadine factor.

There is a huge competition to get more screens in international circuits and in states like Karnataka and Kerala. While the Telugu movie has got more screens in Karnataka, Jilla has got good number of screens in Kerala.

Traders say that wide release boosts movie collections and producers try hard to release their films in maximum number of theatres. Going by the screen counts, the road to Jilla on getting a never-before opening is not easy due to competition from other big films.

Good Content Required

However, the long run in theatre will decide whether Jilla could break Thuppakki records for which good content is required. If the content is good, the film could not only break Vijay's earlier records, but also it could create new records.

But also a few believe that Vijay's Jilla will be pulling Malayalam audience due to the Mohanlal factor and wonderful opening is guaranteed for the film. And it appears like the film is not only for mass, but also for class. Hence, there are strong chances of Jilla breaking Thuppakki records.
