It
is
a
known
fact
that
many
social
activists
and
critics
came
down
heavily
on
Dhanush
after
the
release
of
Maari,
for
he
was
shown
with
a
cigarette
in
every
alternate
scene.
It
is
true
that
such
scenes
glorify
the
screen
presence
of
a
popular
star
and
when
time
slows
down
on
the
big
screen
while
playing
such
a
scene,
it
sure
enhances
the
doughtiness
of
a
hero.
But
it
also
gives
that
much
more
extra
time
for
a
fan
to
assume
that
smoking
might
make
one
look
cool.
Fearing
such
a
terrible
consequence,
former
Union
Minister
of
Health
and
Family
welfare,
Anbumani
Ramadoss
has
been
requesting
Tamil
heroes
not
to
pass
on
such
an
unhealthy
message
to
their
fans
by
smoking
on-screen.
First
it
was
Superstar
Rajinikanth,
who
subsequently
stopped
smoking
in
the
movies,
and
now
a
similar
appeal
was
made
to
Dhanush
after
his
recently
released
flick.
In
a
reply
to
Mr.
Ramadoss,
Dhanush
has
mentioned
that
he
smokes
on
screen
only
when
the
character
he
plays
demands
him
to
do
so.
Furthermore,
he
has
promised
him
that
he
will
not
smoke
in
any
of
his
upcoming
movies,
according
to
a
report
by
IndiaGlitz.
Check
out
the
slides
below
to
know
which
other
actors
have
promised
that
they
will
never
smoke
on-screen:
Rajinikanth
who
was
once
famous
for
his
unique
stunt
involving
a
cigarette
stick,
gave
up
smoking
on-screen
after
Anbumani
Ramadoss
requested
him
to
stop
the
act
as
a
Superstar
like
him
stands
a
good
chance
in
influencing
his
fans,
who
are
huge
in
numbers,
to
cultivate
the
habit
of
smoking.
The
request
was
made
after
the
release
of
Baba
in
the
year
2002.
Kamal
Haasan
Kamal
Haasan
who
was
seen
smoking
in
many
of
his
films
early
in
his
career
decided
to
kick
the
butt
on
screen
as
well
as
in
his
personal
life.
The
actor
once
jokingly
said
cigarette
became
a
hindrance
to
his
lip
lock
scenes
and
that's
when
he
decided
to
call
it
quits.
Vijay
Like
any
other
Indian
hero,
Vijay
too
had
glorified
the
habit
of
smoking
on
screen
but
decided
to
quit
when
Anbumani
had
made
a
similar
request.
Now
you
know
Mr.
Ramadoss
has
made
more
than
one
prominent
Tamil
hero
to
quit
smoking
on
the
silver
screen.
Suriya
According
to
a
report,
Suriya
too
had
recently
promised
that
he
will
never
smoke
on
the
big
screen
as
it
might
save
hundreds
of
lives.
In
Anjaan,
the
actor
was
seen
with
a
toothpick
in
his
mouth
instead
of
a
cigarette
stick.
Dhanush
As
mentioned
earlier,
Dhanush
is
the
latest
actor
to
join
the
list
and
the
credit
once
again
goes
to
Anbumani
Ramadoss
for
requesting
the
actor
to
quit
the
act.
In
his
request,
he
had
even
mentioned
that
Dhanush
should
follow
his
father
in
law
in
this
regard.
Other
Forms
Of
Style
Statement
It
is
now
the
responsibility
of
a
filmmaker
to
come
up
with
alternate
style
statements
to
make
their
heroes
appear
cool
on-screen.
In
Sivaji,
Rajinikanth
was
seen
chewing
a
gum,
a
well
known
alternate
for
cigarettes.
