Papanasam First Three Days Box Office Collections: Achieves Half Of Drishyam's Total Gross!
Looks like Kamal Haasan's persuasion with content driven films is finally bearing the fruit called money as the first three days(weekend) box office collections of Papanasam is reportedly impressive.
Sadly, the 'Ulaganayagan' is not known for his box office records, not at least when he delivers a content based movie. But thanks to Papanasam's strong theme, the film has reportedly grossed ₹1.34 crore from its first three days in Chennai alone.
While it was anticipated that the movie might collect close to 8 crores from the whole of Tamil Nadu, it has exceeded the expectations by a long way, collecting an impressive ₹14.7 crore, according to a trade source.
From the remaining parts of India, the mystery-thriller has grossed ₹2.25 crore and the contribution from foreign countries stands at ₹5.45 crore.
Considering that the film was released in only 750 screens worldwide, the total weekend collections of Papanasam which amounts to ₹22.4 crore (approx) is a phenomenal record for any Tamil movie, let alone a non-commercial flick.
It is also to be noted that the original film Drishyam starring Mohanlal had grossed ₹6.7 crore worldwide, from its first eight days.

Drishyam Vs Papanasam
The highest Malayalam grosser ever which ended up collecting close to ₹55 crores after completing more than 150 days of theatrical run had collected ₹35 crore after 50 days of its release. Looks like Papanasam is all set to reach 35 crores by the end of its second week.
Collecting Big In The USA
From its Thursday(2nd July) premiere alone, Papanasam had reportedly collected $31,759 which roughly amounts to ₹20.19 lakh.
USA First Day Collections
On Friday(3rd July), the Kamal Haasan starrer had collected a whopping $77,073 from the Land of Liberty according to a trade source. The amount, when converted to INR, becomes ₹49 lakh.
USA Second Day Collections
On its second day(4th July) too the movie gained handsomely from the United States as it reportedly grossed $72,010 which amounts to ₹45.7 lakh.
Total Collections From The US
It is estimated that the movie's collection improved substantially on its third day(Sunday), amassing close to a massive $90,000 amounting to ₹57.2 lakh. The total estimated gross from the US alone now stands at ₹1.72 crore (approx).
Can It Reach The 100 Crore Mark?
If at all the movie manages to reach the 100 crore mark, box office history could be re-written, for it is absolutely rare for an undecorated movie like Papanasam sans any usual 'masala' elements to pile up ₹100 crore in its box office.
