Ameerjan
who
fabricated
more
than
20
Tamil
films
passed
away
today
morning
at
his
residence
in
Chennai.
The
filmmaker,
who
initially
worked
as
an
assistant
director
under
the
legendary
K
Balachander
was
aged
73
at
the
time
of
his
death.
He
turned
into
a
full
time
director
through
the
Murali-Kuyili
starrer
Poovilangu
in
1984
which
was
produced
by
Balachander.
The
song
'Aathadi
Paavada'
from
the
film,
composed
by
the
Maestro
Ilaiyaraaja
is
hummed
even
today.
He
then
went
on
to
direct
some
prominent
actors
like
Rajinikanth
in
Siva,
Vijayakanth
in
Uzaithu
Vazha
Vendum,
Karthik
in
Natpu
and
many
other
noteworthy
movies.
His
films
Poovilangu
and
Vanna
Kanavugal
was
critically
celebrated
as
well
as
did
well
at
the
box
office.
Ameerjan
suffered
a
cardiac
arrest
a
few
days
back
and
was
admitted
to
a
private
hospital
in
Chennai
until
recently.
The
director,
who
made
it
back
to
his
house
two
days
ago
complained
of
breathlessness
early
in
the
morning
and
soon
departed
before
the
ambulance
could
arrive.
His
body
will
be
kept
for
public
viewing
at
his
residence
which
is
located
at
Kannammal
street,
Saligramam,
Chennai.
He
is
survived
by
a
son
and
a
daughter.
The
funeral
will
take
place
tomorrow,
18th
of
March.
