International Joke Day Spl: Tamil Comedians Who Turned Heroes!
On the International Joke Day(July 1st), I wonder if upcoming Tamil comedians would turn their thoughts toward establishing themselves as heroes in the Tamil film industry just like what Santhanam and others have been doing of late..
If you think the trend was actually started by the legendary comedian Nagesh, we would like to point out that the seed was sown much before Nagesh started trying his hand at heroism.
Though comedians like NS Krishnan and Chandrababu did not star in films as heroes, they were considered as more than just comedians.
No, we are not talking about their writing or singing abilities but their hero like stature and contributions they brought in to any film they were associated with.
After Nagesh, no one could even try something similar to what he had achieved until comedians like Vadivelu and Vivek, after years of experience, began to expand their range.
Can all successful comedians go on to become successful heroes? Why not? With proper dedication and right set of skills, anyone can flaunt their heroism on the big screen, which is easier said than done.
But a selected few have done it successfully in the past and continue to do so. Check out the slides below to know more about such comedians who have tried their hands at romance, action and more.
Nagesh
As mentioned earlier, Nagesh, with his incredible talent went on to dish out blockbuster movies as a hero. K Balachander had once famously said, "If Nagesh had the right looks, no other hero could've made an impression as he would've". His movies as a hero includes Server Sundaram and Neerkumizhi and Ethir Neechal (1968 film).
Goundamani
Goundamani has acted in a couple of movies as a hero at the time when he was ruling the industry as a lead comedian. Since the movies in which he was seen as the main lead did not make much of an impression at the box office, he went back to do what he does best. His upcoming film 49-O will once again see him as a hero.
Vadivelu
Though Nagesh made the trend famous, it was Vadivelu who started inspiring other comedians to take up the role of a hero, one might think. The success of Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi, in which he played dual roles landed him another film as a hero which is Indiralohathil Na Azhagappan. His upcoming film Eli will once again see him as a hero opposite Sadha of Anniyan fame.
Vivek
After the actor's unsuccessful attempt to launch himself as a hero, he finally accomplished in doing exactly that through Naan Than Bala. He will also be seen as a lead actor in his upcoming movies Solli Adippen and Palakkad Madhavan with Sonia Aggarwal playing his heroine in the latter.
Karunas
Karunas' first attempt as a hero came in the form of Dindigul Sarathy which turned out to be a successful attempt. He then went on to star in movies like Ambasamudram Ambani and Ragalaipuram as a hero.
Santhanam
Santhanam is the latest comedian to join the list. Though his latest release Inimey Ippadithan is running successfully, demanding our attention towards it, he made his debut as a hero 7 years back through Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul. He then went on to act in Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham(2014) which had Ashna as the female lead.
