Actress Jyothi Lakshmi (68) Passes Away After Losing Her Battle To Blood Cancer
Veteran actress and dancer Jyothi Lakshmi, known for her item numbers in the 60s and 70s, passes away in Chennai. She was suffering from Leukemia (blood cancer), according to a report.
Aged 68, the well-known actress breathed her last around 12 AM (Tuesday). It is said that her health deteriorated over the last few days and she lost her battle to cancer after suffering an unendurable chest pain. She is survived by her daughter Jyothi Meena.

After bagging a role in Trisha Illana Nayanthara, the actress was supposed to star in Simbu's AAA. "#Jothilakshmi actress who also acted in #TIN passed away. also had a big character in #AAA .very sad. RIP mam," director Adhik Ravichandran tweeted.
Vishal Expresses His Condolence
"Veteran actress #jothilakshmi passed away. she succumbed to cancer. may her soul RIP. u Wil b remembered forever. deepest condolences 2 da fmly," actor Vishal wrote on his Twitter page.
Raadika Shares Her Experience
"Very sad to hear of the sudden demise of Actress Jothilaxmi, worked with her in Annamalai serial. Lovely lady and a great dancer RIP," Raadika Sarathkumar posted on her social media page.

Though the concept of item numbers had existed in Tamil cinema much before Jyothi Lakshmi made her debut, she took the idea to a whole new level by being extremely bold on screen.
Female-oriented Movies
At the time when the film industry was completely dominated by male stars (it still is) Jyothi Lakshmi starred in many female-oriented movies, making a mark for herself.
A Film Named After Her
Though the film Jyothi Lakshmi (Telugu) was not exactly a biopic, the central character, played by Charmy Kaur, was designed based on the actress' dancing skills and the way she was portrayed in movies.
Jyothi Lakshmi was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here in the city. The last rites will be performed today and the actress will be laid to rest at the Kannammapettai cremation grounds, Chennai.
Jyothi Lakshmi has appeared in more than 300 movies. She was predominantly seen in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.
After making her Tamil acting debut with the MGR-starrer Periya Idathu Penn in the year 1963, she went on to captivate Lakhs of moviegoers with her impeccable dancing skills.
A trained dancer, Jyothi Lakshmi never stopped her frolic way of life. In fact, she was seen doing what she had done best in some of the recently released movies.
