Film-maker
Samuthirakani
will
direct
his
mentor
K
Balachander's
final
script,
which
originally
had
him
as
an
assistant
director.
He
will
also
bankroll
the
project
and
feature
in
it
as
well.
"The
film
was
the
dream
of
my
guru,
and
I
do
not
want
to
approach
any
producer
and
request
them
to
fund
it.
So,
I
will
be
producing
it
myself,
in
addition
to
directing
it," the
Nimirndhu
Nil
director
has
told
to
Times
of
India.
K
Balachander,
one
of
the
most
respected
film-makers
of
our
country,
passed
away
in
2014.
His
final
script
was
left
unattended
after
the
unfortunate
demise
of
K
Balachander's
son.
"KB
sir
had
finalised
this
script,
which
is
centred
on
children,
and
had
even
decided
on
the
artistes
he
wanted
to
cast
in
the
film.
He
had
asked
Samuthirakani
to
be
the
associate
director
for
this
project
and
also
act
in
a
crucial
role.
However,
just
before
he
could
start
production,
KB
sir's
son
passed
away
and
that
broke
him
so
much
that
he
couldn't
take
up
the
project
again,"
a
source
has
revealed.
Samuthirakani,
who
is
currently
working
on
his
upcoming
film
Appa,
is
keen
on
producing
the
film
himself
and
thus
might
take
his
time
before
starting
the
project.
He
has
also
said
that
the
commencement
of
Balachander's
final
script
will
depend
upon
the
performance
of
Appa.
"I'm
the
producer
of
that
film
(Appa)
as
well,
and
if
it
does
well,
then,
I
will
start
this
production
immediately.
Else,
I
intend
to
put
it
on
hold
until
I
earn
the
amount
needed
to
produce
it
myself,"
the
National
Award-winning
actor
has
said.
Appa,
which
is
a
sequel
to
his
2012
drama
Saattai,
is
expected
to
release
later
in
the
year.
