Ilayathalapathy Vijay's latest release Theri has reportedly created a new box office record for any Tamil movie by collecting a colossal 100 Crore rupees in just six days from the day of its release.
"#Theri100Crin6days" was used by producer 'Kalaipuli' S Thanu in his tweet along with a poster that reads Theri has collected 100 Crores at the worldwide box office in six days.
Though it was earlier reported that the Atlee directorial had joined the 100 Crore club in record time, the news has now been confirmed by the producer and the star actor himself.
This is said to be a new record at the box office. It is to be noted that Vijay's previous blockbuster Kaththi had amassed 100 Crores in 14 days. Theri has broken that record, set by a Vijay film, in double quick time.
In India, places like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana have been major contributors so far, with the home state alone contributing close to 50 Crore rupees.
Theri has been performing well at the overseas market as well. North America and Canada have so far contributed handsomely, with the total collections there touching the $1 Million mark.
"Great response from the movie lovers and Vijay fans across North America. They have made it a big hit. By the end of the first weekend it has surpassed the blockbuster 'Kaththi'. 'Theri' is Therrific and racing towards million dollars in 1st week and it's a record," Sanjay of Cine Galaxy had said.
Vijay has once again proved why he is one of the most reliable actors in Kollywood.
"This is a historical victory. While we can call it a sure hit in Tamil Nadu, the film has stormed the overseas box office as well. I am running short of words to explain my happiness for the distributors who have released the film in overseas markets," Thanu had said.
