We
had
earlier
predicted
that
Vishal's
recently
released
Marudhu
will
go
on
to
collect
close
to
5.5
Crores
and
65
Lakh
rupees
at
the
Tamil
Nadu
and
Chennai
box
office
respectively,
over
its
opening
weekend
(first
three
days).
But
the
action
entertainer
has
taken
many
by
surprise
with
its
impressive
collections.
Marudhu
has
exceeded
all
expectations
to
collect
a
massive
8.5
Crore
rupees
at
the
Tamil
Nadu
box
office
alone.
Despite
heavy
rains
that
lashed
many
parts
of
the
state
last
week,
the
Muthiah-directed
movie
has
managed
to
draw
movie
goers
into
cinema
halls.
As
expected,
the
film
is
getting
massive
responses
from
B
&
C
centres.
In
Chennai
alone,
the
film,
which
is
set
against
the
backdrop
of
Rajapalayam,
has
grossed
a
whopping
83.48
Lakh
rupees
from
its
first
three
days,
according
to
a
report.
In
the
capital
city,
the
movie
has
fared
way
better
than
its
contemporaries
like
X-Men:
Apocalypse
and
Mahesh
Babu's
Telugu
flick
Brahmotsavam.
While
Hollywood
biggie
X-Men:
Apocalypse
has
managed
to
gross
48
Lakh
rupees,
Brahmotsavam
has,
so
far,
gathered
45.79
Lakhs.
Marudhu,
which
is
bankrolled
by
GN
Anbu
Chezhiyan,
also
stars
Sri
Divya,
Radha
Ravi,
RK
Suresh
and
Soori
in
important
roles.
Meanwhile,
officials
responsible
for
tracking
down
the
piracy
business
in
Tamil
Nadu,
have
seized
one
Lakh
illegal
CDs
and
computers
worth
more
than
20
Lakh
rupees
in
Madurai.
The
action
was
taken
based
on
a
complaint
from
Vishal.
In
Salem
too,
similar
crackdown
on
people
involved
in
the
illegal
business
instilled
fear
among
their
contemporaries
all
over
the
state.
Members
of
Nadigar
Sangam,
Ramana
and
Nandha
accompanied
police
officials
in
Salem,
where
they
seized
many
pirated
DVDs.
Vishal,
the
General
Secretary
of
the
South
Indian
Artistes'
Association
(SIAA),
has
been
directly
involved
in
the
crackdown
on
piracy
from
a
long
time
now.
Can
he,
along
with
the
newly
formed
Nadigar
Sangam,
put
an
end
to
piracy
in
Tamil
Nadu?
Let's
wait
and
watch.
