2016 was a fabulous year for the Tamil movie industry, as the year produced both commercial potboilers and quality films. While some films like Theri and Kabali tasted exceptional success, films like Iraivi and Joker impressed the movie buffs.
Filmibeat had conducted the Best Of 2016 polls, asking the audiences to vote for their favourite actors, movies, and technicians. The polls have come to an end today, and as expected, Vijay and his blockbuster movie Theri topped the list.
Here is the complete winners list:
Best Movie: 24
24, the Vikram Kumar directed Suriya movie topped the polls by beating Rajinikanth's Kabali, to become the Best Movie of 2016.
Favourite Tamil Movie 2016: Theri
Theri, the Vijay starring high voltage entertainer won the Favourite Tamil Movie 2016 title. The Atlee-directed movie has beaten Gautham Menon's Accham Yenbathu Madamaiyada to top the list.
Best Actor: Vijay
Vijay, the Ilayathalapathy of Kollywood won the Best Actor, for his performance as ACP Vijayakumar in Atlee's Theri. The actor won the title after a fierce competition with his contemporary Suriya.
Best Actress: Keerthy Suresh
Keerthy Suresh, the super cute actress won the Best Actress title for her performance in Remo. The actress has beaten her seniors Samantha and Nayantara to win the title.
Best Director: Atlee
Atlee, the young talented film-maker who delivered the high voltage commercial entertainer Theri, won the Best Director title of 2016. He has beaten the 24 director Vikram Kumar to win the title.
Best Villain: Suriya
Suriya's fabulous performance as the devilish Athreya in 24 was widely appreciated. The actor won the Best Villain title in Best Of 2016 polls, for his performance in the movie.
Best Music Director: AR Rahman
AR Rahman, the Isai Puyal won the Best Music Director title for the music albums of Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada and 24.
Best Comedian: Motta Rajendran
Motta Rajendran, the popular actor won the Best Comedian title of 2016 for his performance in Atlee's Theri.
Kabali, the Rajinikanth starring Pa Ranjith movie bagged the second position in the Best Movie 2016 category. In the Favourite Tamil Movie 2016 category, Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada and Remo bagged the second and third positions.
There was also a fierce competition in the Best Actor category, especially between Vijay and Suriya. Even though he lost the title to Vijay, Suriya managed to grab the second position. Interestingly, Surya was considered in both Best Actor and Best Villain categories, for the same film.
AR Rahman competed with his nephew, GV Prakash Kumar who composed music for the Vijay movie Theri, for the Best Music Director title. Rahman went on to bag the title, while GV Prakash grabbed the second position.
