In
an
unfortunate
development,
veteran
politician
and
former
Tamil
Nadu
Chief
Minister
M
Karunanidhi
has
passed
away
in
much
to
the
shock
of
his
die-hard
supporters.
The
94-year-old
DMK
supremo
was
admitted
to
a
noted
hospital
in
Chennai
on
Saturday
(July
28,
2018)
after
suffering
from
urinary
tract
infection
and
initially
showed
signs
of
improvement.
However,
his
health
detoriated
on
Tuesday
(August
7,
2018),
and
this
ultimately
led
to
his
death.
He
had
not
been
keeping
too
well
for
a
year
and
was
rarely
seen
in
public.
Before
entering
politics
'Kalaignar'
worked
as
a
scriptwriter
and
wrote
the
screenplays
of
several
popular
films.
He
began
his
career
with
MGR's
Rajakumari
and
gave
a
strong
proof
of
his
abilities
as
a
writer.
The
1952
release
Parashakthi
is
regarded
as
one
of
the
most
popular
films
of
his
career.
The
Sivaji
Ganesan
starrer
revolved
around
the
core
ideals
of
the
Dravidian
movement
and
ruffled
a
few
feathers.
It
faced
opposition
from
the
orthodox
groups
and
was
even
banned
for
a
short
period
of
time.
His
subsequent
films
too
dealt
with
sensitive
issues
like
widow
re-marriage
and
untouchability.
As
his
films
often
dealt
with
sensitive
issues,
they
ran
into
trouble
with
the
'Censors'.
Karunanidhi's
death
marks
the
end
of
an
era
and
we
hope
that
his
near
and
dear
ones
stay
strong
in
this
difficult
time.
