Kaatrin Mozhi Review: This Jyothika Starrer Makes For A Delightful Watch

Rating:
3.5/5
Star Cast: Jyothika, Lakshmi Manchu, Elango Kumaravel, Sindhu Shyam, Sandra Amy
Director: Radha Mohan

There's no denying the fact that the much-loved Jyothika is one of the finest performers in the Tamil film industry. In 2015, the actress began her 'second innings' with 36 Vayadhinile and proved her mettle as a performer. Since then, she has further cemented her position in the industry by doing performance-oriented films. With her latest release Kaatrin Mozhi, Jyothika has continued her tryst with female-centric films and proved once again that she is still the queen of hearts.

Kaaatrin Mozhi is a remake of the Bollywood hit Tumhari Sulu and it stays faithful to the original version. Kaatrin Mozhi revolves around a Chennai-based housewife, who decides to become an RJ and realises her dreams.

Kaatrin Mozhi

The basic storyline is quite relatable and it is bound to click big time with those who come from a middle-class background. The impact of this relatable storyline is enhanced further because of some effective writing. The screenplay relies more on 'showing' than 'telling' and this makes it easy for the fans to relate with the situations depicted. The screenplay also does the decent job of highlighting the challenges of day-to-day life.

Jyothika is clearly the heart and soul of Kaatrin Mozhi. Her character is not a simple one, as it has several layers to it. However, she manages to essay it with effortless ease. In fact, it can even be said that she lives the character.

Lakshmi Manchu too delivers a solid performance that keeps the audience hooked. Her confident body language adds a new dimension to her performance and makes it even more enjoyable. Vidhaarth is decent. However, as this is a Jyothika show all the way, he is unable to make much of an impact. MS Bhaskar and Kumaravel too have essayed their respective roles with utmost sincerity and support Jyothika quite well. Similarly, STR's cameo too comes across as an absolute delight for his fans.

Radha Mohan's direction is top notch. He has treated the film in a sensitive and intelligent manner. As such, it stays true to life but never gets boring.

AH Haneef's tunes are hummable and they gel well with the on-screen action. The other technical departments too have been handled well. However, the overall film could have been a bit shorter.

Kaatrin Mozhi is a pretty well-made film that manages to strike the right notes.
