Saamy Square Opening Day Box Office Collections: It Fails To Beat Seema Raja And Vishwaroopam 2

The dashing Vikram is arguably one of the most successful and popular names in the Tamil film industry today. Fondly called 'Chiyaan', the veteran enjoys a strong fan following thanks to his charming screen presence, good looks, humble nature and remarkable range as a performer. Over the years, he has starred in quite a few highly successful films and this has helped him become a force to be reckoned with. At present, he is in the limelight because of his latest film Saamy Square. A sequel to his 2003 hit Saamy, the film hit the screens yesterday (September 21, 2018) and opened on a decent note at the box office. Here is the complete report.

A Decent Start

A Decent Start

According to the latest trade reports, Saamy Square raked in close to Rs 6 Crore at the Tamil Nadu box office on Day 1 and got off to a decent start. Similarly, the film opened on a fairly good note at the Chennai box office and grossed nearly Rs 64 Lakh.

While Saamy Square has opened on a good note, the fact remains that it's proved to be no match for Seema Raja. The Sivakarthikeyan starrer had raked in nearly Rs 1 Crore at the CBO on its opening day. Similarly, Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 too had opened on a better note than Saamy Square. The spy-thriller had collected Rs 92 Lakh at the Chennai box office on Day 1 despite releasing days after M Karunanidhi's death.

The WOM Is Not Positive

The WOM Is Not Positive

The general feeling is that Saamy Square is a decent film but it does not do justice to the high standards set by the first part. Most critics are of the opinion that Hari's screenplay is lacklustre and does not do justice to Vikram's abilities as an actor. As such, the WOM is not too positive. And, needless to say, this might prove to be a problem for it in the days to come.

The Way Ahead

The Way Ahead

Saamy Square is likely to do relatively well on Saturday (September 22, 2018) and Sunday ( September 23, 2018), and witness a growth in collections. However, it will face its first big test on Monday (September 24, 2018). If the film witnesses a significant drop, it might spell trouble for Saamy Square, as Mani Ratnam's multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is slated to hit the screens on September 27, 2018. It is one of the biggest releases of the year and might overpower Saamy Square.
