Vijay Becomes The First South Star To Win This Prestigious Award

The dashing and charismatic Vijay is one of the most popular and successful stars in the Tamil film industry today. Fondly called 'Thalapathy', the actor enjoys a strong following thanks to his god looks, simple nature, gripping screen presence and remarkable versatility as an actor. Over the years, he has starred in several blockbusters and this has established him as a synonym for success. Now, here is some terrific news for all you Vijay fans out there.

In an exciting development, Vijay has bagged the IARA Award for 'Best International Actor ' and become the first South star to achieve this feat. He bagged the prestigious award for his remarkable performance in Mersal.

In case you did not know, Mersal was one of the biggest hits of 2017 and featured Vijay in a triple role. Directed by Atlee, it hit the screens on Diwali and proved to be a delight for the fans. It also featured Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and SJ Suryah in the lead. A big hit at the box office, Mersal also ruffled a few feathers because of a scene that ridiculed GST and 'Digital India'.

On a related note, Vijay is currently gearing up for the release of Sarkar. A political-thriller, the film has been directed by AR Murugadoss and features 'Thalapathy' in the role of a crusader.
