Over the years, he has starred in some of Tamil cinema's best films and this has made him an inseparable part of the industry. At present, he is in the limelight because of his film Vishwaroopam 2 which hit the screens yesterday(August 10, 2018) amidst much fanfare.
The film had created a reasonable amount of pre-release buzz and was expected to open on a good note. So, did it live up to these expectations? Let us find out.
Day 1 Collections
According to a leading website, Vishwaroopam 2 collected nearly Rs 70 Lakh at the Chennai box office on the opening day. The general feeling is that the Day 1 collections are decent but not as good as expected.
Vishwaroopam 2 Is No Match For Kaala
Interestingly, Vishwaroopam 2 has failed to beat the opening day collections of Kaala. Rajinikanth's crime-drama had collected nearly Rs 1.76 Crore on the opening day and emerged as the king of the Chennai box office.
Did Karunanidhi’s Death Affect Vishwaroopam 2?
Vishwaroopam 2 hit the screens merely three days after former Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi's unfortunate demise. The trade buzz is that grim mood in the state affected the film's opening day collections. In other words, it would have fared better had it released under normal circumstances.
The WOM Is Mixed
The consensus is that Vishwaroopam 2 is not an exceptionally good film and does not do justice to the standards set by the first part. As such, the WOM is mixed and this might affect its performance in the coming days.
The Way Ahead..
Being the only major Tamil film to hit the screens this week, Vishwaroopam 2 is likely to have a free run at the Chennai box office in the coming days. As such, It is likely to show tremendous growth over the weekend.
