Jailer: OTT Giant Shells Out A Whopping Rs 100 Crore For Rights; Rajinikanth's Film Will Start Streaming From

Superstar Rajinikanth, the Thalaivar of Kollywood aptly made a sensation with his latest comedy-action drama titled Jailer. The movie written and directed by Nelson is the highest grosser in Tamil Nadu to date and is continuing to enthrall viewers the box office. The movie released to a thumping response on August 10 worldwide in major south-Indian languages.

Jailer is made on a budget of about Rs 240 Crore by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner. The movie, a slow burn action thriller set a new benchmark for the south-Indian film industries with its box office records. Jailer's worldwide collection (As on September 1) is about Rs 602 Crore.

Jailer became a money-spinner in not only Tamil Nadu, two Telugu states but also in the United Arab Emirates and other parts of the world in the Dubbing films category from south.

Producer Kalanithi Maran, who hit the jackpot with Superstar Rajinikanth, gifted him a brand new luxury ride as well a profit share of Rs 100 Crore in cheque, in addition to the remuneration of Rs 110 Crore. This makes Thalaivar the highest paid actor in India. Rajinikanth earlier became the highest paid actor in the country back in 2006 when he received over Rs 45 Crore for Chandramukhi.

The OTT giant invested enormous amount on this biggie, precisely a massive Rs 100 Crore, to secure the digital streaming rights. The filmmakers and the OTT concerned are reportedly looking to stream the movie from September 7. Official announcement is awaited.

The movie stars Rajinikanth, Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Sunil, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Mirnaa Menon, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vasanth Ravi, Naga Babu, Yogi Babu, and Kishore, G Marimuthu, Namo Narayana, Saravanan, and Aranthangi Nisha, and Mahanadi Shankar among others in important characters. Actor Mohanlal will appear in a special cameo.
