Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer, a dark comedy-thriller running successfully in theatres all over the world delivered a much-needed break for superstar Rajinikanth. The movie is breaking all records in India, Tamil cinema, and overseas ever since its release on August 10.

Jailer is the story of a retired Muthuvel Pandian, who worked as a Jailer at the Tihar jail. He lives a peaceful life with his family consisting of his son ACP Arjun, wife, daughter-in-law, and grandson. One day, when his son goes missing without a trace, Muthu unleashes his rage until he comes face-to-face with Varman, the deadly gangster involved in smuggling. Jailer Overseas Box Office: Quadruple Blockbuster

The movie which is going on a box office rampage worldwide has emerged into a quadruple blockbuster. The movie achieved break-even in all languages within 7 days of its theatrical release. It has become the cleanest hit for superstar Rajinikanth after Enthiran (Robo), which took 13 years. Jailer movie has derived humongous profits for distributors and exhibitors overseas. The rights for the movie were bought for Rs 32 Crore. The movie earned over Rs 200 Crore so far, and the movie is continuing to attract viewers.

The movie stars Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Sunil, Jackie Shroff, Vinayakan, Vasanth Ravi, Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu, Sunil Reddy, Redin Kingsley, VTV Ganesh, Saravanan, Uday Mahesh, Aranthangi Nisha, Mahanadi Shankar, G Marimuthu, Jani, Tamannaah, Kishore, Naga Babu, and Makarand Deshpande among others in prominent roles.

Jailer's cinematography was handled by Vijay Karthik Kannan and editing was taken care of by R Nirmal. Anirudh Ravichander composed a sensational background score and music for the film. Kalanithi Maran bankrolled the movie on a budget of about Rs 240 Crore under the Sun Pictures banner.
