Written and directed by Raju Murugan, Karthi's latest heist comedy-drama titled Japan hit the screens on November 10. The movie was met with a lukewarm response at the box office, post decent buzz around its release.

Japan stars Anu Emmanuel as the female lead opposite Karthi. The movie is based on a notorious burglar called Japan, who robs jewelry worth crores.

Japan is a notorious thief who steals jewelry worth Rs 200 Crore at a store. This event kick-starts a cat-and-mouse chase between the cops and Japan.

The movie trade analysts opined that the Karthi-starrer would earn somewhere between Rs 5 Crore and Rs 6 Crore on the first day, if the talk is positive, hoping it would pick up in the Diwali festival weekend. However, with mixed reactions to the movie, Japan didn't do as much as it is expected to.

Japan earned about Rs 2.4 Crore from all over India on its first day. From the Tamil version, Karthi's movie made about Rs 1.5 Crore and from the Telugu release, Japan got Rs 0.9 Crore as collection on the release day.

The crime comedy film stars Karthi as Japan, Anu Emmanuel, Jithan Ramesh, KS Ravikumar, Sunil, Vijay Milton, Vagai Chandrasekhar, and Bava Chelladurai among others in important roles.

Japan Crew

The movie is a production venture of Dream Warrior Pictures helmed by SR Prabhu. Raju Murugan wrote and directed the movie. GV Prakash Kumar worked as the film's entire sound and music composer. Philomin Raj and Ravi Varman worked as Japan's editor and cinematographer, respectively.
