Jigarthanda Double X vs Japan Box Office Day 1: Raghava Lawrence’s Film FAILS To Beat Karthi’s Heist Drama

Diwali is around the corner and as everyone is gearing up for the big festival, the box office witnessed a major clash today. Yes! We are talking about the box office clash between Raghava Lawrence starrer Jigarthanda Double X and Karthi's recently release Japan. Both the movies have been among the most anticipated releases of the year and are are seen giving each other a tough fight.

For the uninitiated, Jigarthanda Double X, which marks Karthik Subbaraj's return to direction after four years, happens to be an action comedy set in 1970. On the other hand, Japan is a heist action comedy film and also features Anu Emmanuel,Sunil, S. D. Vijay Milton and K. S. Ravikumar in key roles. Given their similar genre, there have been speculations about which movie will be performing better at the box office. Interestingly, the Raghava Lawrence starrer opened to rave reviews from the audience while Japan got mixed reviews

And now, as per the early reports, Jigarthanda Double X has witnessed a slow start at the box office and has failed to beat Japan on the first day of release. According to a report published in Sacnilk, Jigarthanda Double X will be raking Rs 2 crores on day one which is way less than Japan will be raking in Rs 6 crores. It will be interesting to see how the Karthik Subbaraj directorial will fare in the coming days.

Meanwhile, talking about Japan, Karthi had stated, "Raju Murugan is one of most important directors we have in cinema, he has great love for the society. When he narrated the script to me, I realised I had to change the way I look and speak. Japan is the story of a thief who had a unique approach to life and interesting outlook towards society. The film may look like an entertainer, but it is an emotional ride and will make you think".
