Jigarthanda DoubleX Box Office Collection Day 1: Karthik Subbaraj's Film Makes Lesser Than Expected

Karthik Subbaraj returned to the big screen as a director after four years. He came up with a period crime drama with great effect in the form of Jigarthanda DoubleX. The movie hit the screens in Tamil and Telugu on November 10 to a decent response.

The movie is said to be a spiritual successor to his earlier film titled Jigarthanda, which featured Siddharth and was released in 2014. The Jigarthanda DoubleX is much more than a film and people who watched the movie couldn't stop raving about it.

Jigarthanda DoubleX Premise

The movie is set in Madurai, in 1975. A gangster named Pandian, who looks very intimidating, aspires to become the first dark-skinned hero in the Tamil film industry and he eventually hires an aspiring director Ray Dasan, who was a former assistant director to Satyajit Ray. They together begin a movie titled Pandyaa. As the film progresses, Pandiyan's rivals try to attack him, causing a mayhem.

The movie had great expectations and it opened to the same hype all over the world. The movie is extraordinary in terms of filmmaking, storytelling, and every other aspect involved in it. The performances are top-notch. However, the movie's box office numbers are disappointing.

Jigarthanda DoubleX could only make Rs 1.75 Crore on its opening day in India, going by the figures mentioned by Sacnilk. The movie now pins hopes on the Diwali weekend. Nevertheless, the occupancy ratio for Karthik Subbaraj's padam increased towards the end of the day from 18.01% for the morning shows to 39.01% for the night shows.

The movie stars Raghava Lawrence as Pandiyan, a gangster, and SJ Suryah as Ray Dasan, a budding film director. The movie also features Nimisha Sajayan, Shine Tom Chacko, Naveen Chandra, Sathyan, Aravind Akash, Ilavarasu, and Bava Chelladurai among others playing important characters.

The period action drama was written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, S Kathiresan, and Alankar Pandian bankrolled the movie under the Stone Bench Films, Invenio Origin, and Five Stare Creations banners.
