Writer-director Karthik Subbaraj hit the silver screen after four long years with Raghava Lawrence-SJ Suryah's Jigarthanda DoubleX, a period gangster action drama. The movie was released in Tamil and Telugu on November 10, for Diwali.

The movie is set in Madurai, in 1975. A gangster named Allius Ceaser aspires to become the first dark-skinned hero in the Tamil film industry and he eventually hires an aspiring director Ray Dasan, who introduces himself as a former assistant director to Satyajit Ray. They embark on a journey that will change their fates forever. Who is Allius Ceaser? Why Ray Dasan, who is assigned to kill him shoots a film with him?
