Writer-director Karthik Subbaraj's latest period gangster drama Jigarthanda DoubleX hit the screens amid high expectations on November 10 for the Deepavali festival weekend. The movie which stars SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence in the key roles met with positive reviews and became a critic's favourite.

The movie is set in Madurai, in 1975. A gangster named Allius Ceaser aspires to become the first dark-skinned hero in the Tamil film industry and he eventually hires an aspiring director Ray Dasan, who introduces himself as a former assistant director to Satyajit Ray. They embark on a journey that will change their fates forever. Who is Allius Ceaser? Why Ray Dasan, who is assigned to kill him shoots a film with him? Did Ray Dasan succeed in killing Allius Ceaser to save his life? Who is Shettani, killing the wild elephants for their tusks? The answers to these questions are all about Jigarthanda DoubleX.
