Kasturi Shankar is a popular actress in the Tamil and Telugu industries since the 1990s. The actress who returned from the States and resumed her career in the entertainment industry is often a topic for the headlines.

The actress played female lead roles as well as supporting roles before hitting the small screen space. She earned good fame by playing the role of a docile housewife Tulasi, in one of the most popular serials 'Gruha Lakshmi,' on Star Maa. However, now and then, Kasturi manages to demand attention by riling up and creating controversies.

On July 13, Kasthuri Shankar shared a tweet in which two young girls are seen buying liquor from a store amid men. The girls are recorded while doing this and they shied away from the camera.

Kasthuri captioned it, "தண்ணியடி, பெண்ணே தண்ணியடி !
எட்டு மறிவினில் ஆணுக்கிங்கே பெண்
இளைப்பில்லை காணென்று தண்ணியடி.

WhatsApp fwd of the day. As received.
Super. அப்ப பெண்கள் உரிமை தொகை சிந்தாம சிதறாம திரும்பிடும் 🫤, (sic)"

The caption in Tamil losely translates to, 'Drink Girl Drink. You are the male among other eight males and there is no stopping you. What could it lead to, just one whatsapp forward of the day. Super. Then the women's rights will return without thinking."

Immediately, she drew the wrath of her followers and fellow netizens for her harsh remarks. Many started questioning her if it is okay for girls to booze in pubs?' Some other user wrote, 'It is disgusting to see such a tweet from you. Though am not supporting here for people who drink, it's their choice, their money, their liver. What bother's you?' They also shared a picture of Kasthuri from a Page 3 event coverage titled 'Bar For Friends.'

Another user by the name of Mary Ashok wrote, "Am quite appalled by your tweet! Are you saying women can not drink or purchase one? So much for your forward thinking! Why shame these girls? Is it because they come from a visibly lower socioeconomic background? Would you dare say the same to women of ur same status?! (sic)"

Meanwhile, Singer Chinmayi Sripada also reacted to the post shared by Kasthuri and found fault with her. Chinamyi said, "You really don't need to share this. Honestly, it is wrong." Chinmayi is backed by several other netizens.
