Maaveeran Enters List Of Top 5 Highest Grossing Films On Opening Day In 2023; Beats Dhanush's Vaathi?

This year is seen as the best year for Tamil cinema so far in terms of both box office collection and quality films. While the films of leading heroes have been released successively and have impressed the fans, the films of new directors have also released with low budget and have become huge hits.

Vijay and Ajith's films released at the same time last January as a Pongal release and impressed the fans a lot. While Ajith's film was released based on a bank robbery, Vijay's Varisu film was released focusing on family sentiment. Both these films have given hits without disappointing the fans.

In the last six months, low budget films such as Love Today, Good Night, Por Thozhil have received excellent reception and collection. In this case, the list of the top 5 opening day grossing films in the last 6 months has been released and it is going viral on social media. Ajith's Thunivu is on the first place. The film collected Rs 24.59 crore on its opening day.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 took the second place with a collection of Rs 21.37 crore. Although Vijay's Varisu is the highest grosser overall, it has collected only Rs 19.43 crore on its opening day and is ranked 3rd. To everyone's surprise, Sivakarthikeyan's Maaveeran, released yesterday, is said to have collected 7.61 crores and bagged 4th place in the list.

Udhayanidhi's Mamannan, which released a few days before has collected 7.12 crores and it is in the 5th position. Next up are Dhanush's Vaathi and Simbu's Pathu Thala films. These films managed to collect Rs 5.80 crore and Rs 5.63 crore respectively on the opening day, ranking 6th and 7th.
