Veteran Tamil Actor Mayilsamy Passes Away at 57; Vikram, Kamal Haasan Mourn His Demise

The South Indian film industry witnessed back to back jolts of later. Just a day after Jr NTR's cousin Nandamuri Taraka Ratna breathed his last, renowned Tamil actor Mayilsamy passed away on February 19. He was 57. According to media reports, Mayilsamy died of ill health. It was reported that Mayilsamy had complained of discomfort and was rushed to the hospital soon after. However, he passed away before reaching the hospital. His demise has come as a massive shock to the entire industry and the social media is abuzz with posts of condolences.

Renowned actor Vikram took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and mourned Mayilsamy's demise. Sharing the late actor's pic, Vikram wrote, "Your sweet funny ways will always be remembered dear Mayil. RIP". On the other hand, Kamal Haasan also penned a heartfelt note for Mayilsamy and wrote, "My friend Mylaswamy is successful in presenting his own style of comedy acting. He is thought by many to be helpful. A tribute to a dear friend #Mayilsamy". Meanwhile, filmmaker Venkat Prabhu tweeted, "Really shocking!!! I have been his fan from when he and Lakshman saar (Lakshman Shruti) did an audio comedy variety show named #SiripoSiripu A bundle of talent gone too soon anna. #RIPmayilsamy deepest condolences to family and friends".

Following his demise, a video of the late actor from a dubbing studio is going viral on social media. It is touted to be his last video wherein Mayilsamy was dubbing for his role in the upcoming film Glassmate. Re-sharing the video, trade expert Ramesh Bala wrote, "He felt discomfort.. As his family took him to Porur Ramachandra Hospital, he passed away on the way itself. Later, Doctors confirmed.. He was busy with several movies.. He was first one TV Channels call, when legends pass away.. RIP!".

For the uninitiated, Mayilsamy was a legendary actor in the Tamil film industry who started his journey with K Bhagyaraj's Dhavani Kanavugal. He was seen in movies like Dhool, Vaseegara, Ghilli, Giri, Uthamaputhiran, Veeram, Kanchana, and Kangalal Kaidhu Sei.
