Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the BIG thing right now. The epic periodic story of the Cholas as depicted by revered novelist Kalki Krishnamurthy, took a form for the celluloid with legendary Mani Ratnam's vision.

Ponniyin Selvan 2, which was released all over the world on April 28, in five languages, is raving positive reviews. Fans of the director, actors, the movie, its story, and the Tamil heritage have thronged theatres upon its release, to revel in the past. Adapted for the screen with a screenplay written by Mani Ratnam along with B Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel, the sequel is termed as a befitting finale to the movie made on a budget of Rs 500 Crore.

The movie was opened on thousands of screens all over the world. With a positive response at the theatres, the movie is expected to earn more than Rs 100 Crore worldwide within the opening weekend. On the release day, with a great hold over Tamil Nadu, the movie is expected to make Rs 30 Crore worldwide.

According to producer and business expert Girish Johar, as quoted by Times Now, "PS 1 did exceptional numbers down south and in Hindi as well, it did a decent business. This might also be the same with the second part now.

"From the southern regions, I am expecting around Rs 25 Crore on Day 1, and from Hindi, I am expecting about Rs 2 Crore. All languages combined if it gets around Rs 30 Crore, it will be a good start for the film," he added.

The film stars an ensemble cast and a plethora of actors. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, R Sarathkumar, R Parthiban, Vikram Prabhu, Prabhu, Prakashraj, Nassar, Lal, Rahman, and Jayachitra play crucial roles in Ponniyin Selvan 2.

Subaskaran Allirajah produced the movie under the Lyca Productions banner along with Mani Ratnam on his Madras Talkies banner. AR Rahman composed the film's entire background score and music. Ravi Varman cranked the camera for this larger-than-life grade movie and A Sreekar Prasad worked as the editor. Thota Tharrani is the film's Production Design Head.
