Ponniyin Selvan 2, the sequel of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus film hit the screens all over the world on April 28. The movie, which was released in five languages has been raving blockbuster reviews upon its theatrical release.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Story

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's literary work by the same name, Ponniyin Selvan charts the journey of the Chola King Arunmozhi Varman, who later on was remembered as the Raja Raja Chola. The first part dealt with the introduction of the key characters and how Arunmozhi Varman is saved by a mysterious woman named 'Vooma Rani.'

The sequel will unfold events as Arunmozhi Varman continues on his journey to become the King; Nandini's plan to avenge Aditya Karikalan, the backstory of Vooma Rani, etc.

On its opening day, Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2 was actually estimated to collect Rs 30 Crore from all over India including Hindi. However, it collected more than Rs 30 Crore, by minting Rs 32 Crore.

The movie is adapted from the novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The novel was converted into a screenplay by director Mani Ratnam along with B Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel. The dialogues are penned by B Jeyamohan in Tamil and Tanikella Bharani in Telugu.
