screens

Southern
film
industry
is
legendary
director
Mani
Ratnam's
'Ponniyin
Selvan
2.'
The
movie,
which
is
one
of
the
costliest
films
made
in
the
country
is
ready
to
release
all
over
the
world
on
April
28.
Ponniyin
Selvan,
the
novel
written
by
Kalki
Krishnamurthy,
was
adapted
for
celluloid
and
Mani
Ratnam,
who
has
been
trying
to
do
the
same
for
several
decades,
has
finally
realized
one
of
his
life's
goals.
Ponniyin
Selvan
was
shot
as
a
single
film
at
first
when
Subaskaran
Allirajah
of
Lyca
Productions
came
forward
to
produce
the
movie
with
Mani
Ratnam's
Madras
Talkies
banner.
However,
after
SS
Rajamouli's
Baahubali
franchise
success,
the
makers
decided
to
release
the
epic
historic
tale
of
the
Cholas,
as
depicted
in
a
novel,
in
two
parts.
The
first
part
was
released
on
September
30,
2022
and
within
six
months,
the
sequel
is
ready
to
enthrall
the
viewers.
Ponniyin
Selvan
1
is
so
far
the
highest-grossing
movie
in
the
Tamil
Nadu
state.
The
movie
made
a
whopping
Rs
500
Crore
from
all
over
the
world.
Ahead
of
the
sequel's
release,
the
entire
unit
of
Ponniyin
Selvan
has
been
taking
part
in
several
promotional
activities
throughout
India.
The
Cholas
have
touched
down
in
Delhi,
Bengaluru,
Coimbatore,
Chennai,
and
Hyderabad.
The
film's
pre-release
event
was
held
on
April
23
in
Hyderabad
where
Chiyaan
Vikram,
Aishwarya
Rai,
Karthi,
Trisha,
Jayam
Ravi,
Aishwarya
Lekshmi,
and
Sobhita
Dhulipala
took
part,
along
with
crew
of
the
film.
