Ponniyin Selvan 2 Pre-Release: Mani Ratnam Apologizes To The Whole Cast, Says 'Sorry If I Have…’

Another magnum opus film that will hit the screens from the Southern film industry is legendary director Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan 2.' The movie, which is one of the costliest films made in the country is ready to release all over the world on April 28.

Ponniyin Selvan, the novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, was adapted for celluloid and Mani Ratnam, who has been trying to do the same for several decades, has finally realized one of his life's goals. Ponniyin Selvan was shot as a single film at first when Subaskaran Allirajah of Lyca Productions came forward to produce the movie with Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies banner.

However, after SS Rajamouli's Baahubali franchise success, the makers decided to release the epic historic tale of the Cholas, as depicted in a novel, in two parts. The first part was released on September 30, 2022 and within six months, the sequel is ready to enthrall the viewers. Ponniyin Selvan 1 is so far the highest-grossing movie in the Tamil Nadu state. The movie made a whopping Rs 500 Crore from all over the world.

Ahead of the sequel's release, the entire unit of Ponniyin Selvan has been taking part in several promotional activities throughout India. The Cholas have touched down in Delhi, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The film's pre-release event was held on April 23 in Hyderabad where Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala took part, along with crew of the film.

Speaking on the occasion, Mani Ratnam said that it is wonderful to be here. And I'd like to thank a few people. After thanking Subaskaran and Dil Raju, he said, "I want to thank Rajamouli sir. If Baahubali was not made, and not made in two parts, Ponniyin Selvan would not have been made. So,we owe him a big thanks. I called him, met him and told him this. I told him that he created the path for me to be able to mount PS in two parts. It gave confidence to entire industry. He opened a huge passge for lot of people and lot of Indian history to be converted into films."

Talking about his ensemble cast, the ace director quipped, "I'm sorry if I troubled you enough but I promise I will do it again. Thanks to the fantastic crew, AR Rahman, Eka, Thota Tharani, Sreekar Prasad, Ravi Varma, and their support. The production team did an amazing job and it is their film more than ours. I hope you enjoy Ponniyin Selvan 2. "

PS 2 is releasing in five languages, and apart from the above-mentioned cast, it stars R Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Rahman, Lal, Jayachitra, and Nassar among others in pivotal roles.
