Ponniyin Selvan 2: Reasons Why Sequel To Mani Ratnam's Magnum Opus & Star-Studded Historic Film Is Postponed?

The epic historical action-adventure movie, made by the maverick filmmaker, Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan-1, was released to a spellbinding response in Tamil Nadu and all over the world on September 30, 2022. The AR Rahman musical is an industry hit, featuring a stellar star-studded cast with impeccable characterizations and brilliant technicalities.
The movie featuring actors like Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Trisha among others, is a matter of great prestige to the people of Tamil Nadu, as they relate themselves with the great Chola dynasty. The movie is based on the book written by Kalki Krishnamurthy under the same name and is a renowned script that enticed the Kollywood filmmakers-actors and directors since time immemorial.
According to the latest update, we hear that the makers of the film have decided to postpone the sequel's release due to several post-production issues involving technicalities. Although more than 90 percent of the sequel's filming was completed even before the first part hit the screens, the movie's sequel, which was slated to hit the screens on April 28 of 2023 got delayed due to reasons that suddenly caught up with the post-production team of the unit.
The movie, therefore, has been postponed indefinitely and there is no update about the latest release date of Ponniyin Selvan 2.

The movie also stars actors like Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhitha Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, and Sarathkumar among others in pivotal roles. Ponniyin Selvan 1 & 2 are produced by Subaskaran Allirajah, and Mani Ratnam under the Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners.
The film's cinematography was handled by the brilliant Ravi Varman. Editing was taken care of by A Sreekar Prasad. The first part of the epic movie is dubbed as the highest-grosser of Tamil Nadu with about Rs 500.6 Crore earnings at the box office, surpassing Kamal Haasan-Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram.
