Poornima Bhagyaraj Opens Up Quitting Movies After Marriage, “There Wasn’t Much Encouragement”

Poornima Bhagyaraj needs no introduction in Tamil Nadu. The actress, who is one of the most popular stars in the 80s, has starred in several megahit ventures. Speaking about her career after marriage, Poornima said in an interview with Aval Glitz, that she decided to stop acting after her marriage.
"I was fully occupied when I started my career in acting. I was studying college, I was modelling and also trying for an acting career. I used to visit several studios trying to get a chance to act. It was Hemamalini mam's mother who encouraged me to try acting. With her encouragement, I started trying to find roles," she said.
"It was then I was approached for a Malayalam movie directed by Faasil. They took my portfolio and I was auditioned for a role and I got it. The schedule went on for 25 days. I did not understand anything because the entire crew spoke in Malayalam. I did not know the language. But after a week, I got along after that. The movie initially did not perform well. But after the first week, it started receiving good reviews and the movie picked up after word of mouth reviews," Poornima further added.
Speaking of her personal life, she said, "I had so many commitments. Bhakyaraj and I decided to get married only after two years. But my husband went to take the blessings of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, who gave his dates too early so the wedding happened in just six months."
Speaking of her career, she said, "I myself decided not to act after my wedding. But at the same time, my husband also did not want me to act. I also started enjoying a relaxed life, and I had my kids, so I did not have any time to think about my acting career at all."
