Raavana
Kottam
Movie
Review:
In
Enathi
village
of
Ramanathapuram
district,
Mudukuladhur,
the
people
of
upper
and
lower
streets
live
in
harmony.
Friendship
across
caste
prevails
as
Bose
for
upper-street
people
and
Chitravel
for
lower-street
people
act
as
village
chiefs.
Villagers
do
not
allow
even
political
parties,
fearing
that
if
politics
comes
into
the
town,
it
will
lead
to
division.
Crux
Of
The
Story
In
such
an
environment,
efforts
to
create
division
between
the
two
communities
in
Enathi
village
for
political
self-interest
are
intensifying.
Is
the
local
MLA
who
is
fielded
on
the
orders
of
the
minister
from
the
constituency
successful
in
it
or
not?
-
This
is
the
crux
of
the
story.
Keezhathooval
Massacre
The
next
work
of
'Madha
Yaanai
Koottam'
director
Vikram
Sukumaran,
who
has
gained
attention
as
a
storyteller
reflecting
the
lifestyle
of
land-based
people
as
a
mirror,
is
'Ravanak
Kottam'.
The
director
has
tried
to
show
various
things
like
the
'Keezhathooval
Massacre'
which
took
place
in
1957
in
Mudhukulathur,
Ramanathapuram
district,
the
Seemai
oak
tree
issue
and
the
corporate
mafia.
Performance
Santanu
Bhagyaraj
stands
out
in
his
realistic
performance
mixed
with
aggression,
bearing
the
image
of
a
young
man
who
grew
up
in
a
dry
land.
'Kayal'
Anandhi
gives
her
usual
performance
as
an
innocent
girl.
Prabhu's
physique
and
majestic
tone
add
justice
to
the
character
as
a
social
leader
demanding
equality.
An
over-the-top
Ilavarasu
performance
garners
attention.
Sanjay
Saravanan
and
Murugan's
characters
add
more
values
to
the
villainy.
Deepa
Shankar,
Aruldas,
Thenappan
and
Sujatha
Sivakumar
have
generously
given
the
performance
that
the
character
demands.
Technical
Aspects
Justine
Prabhakaran's
background
score
is
impressive
in
conveying
the
vibrancy
for
the
scenes.
Vetrivel
Mahendran's
camera
is
strong
in
portraying
the
warmth
of
the
arid
landscape
surrounded
by
oak
trees.
Lawrence
Kishore's
cuts
helped
with
the
screenplay.
Overall,
this
Vikram
Sukumaran
film
'Raavana
Kottam',
which
has
many
cliche
scenes,
dialogues
and
typical
rural
drama
format
doesn't
work
big
for
Santhanu.
