Thunivu Actress Mercy Chithra Opens Up About Casting Couch, "I Was Asked To 'Adjust' Several Times"

Mercy Chithra, who played a small role in Ajith Kumar's recent movie Thunivu has made an open and bold statement by speaking about her experience in casting couch. Chithra, who is also a news anchor has said that she has faced so many instances of casting couch when she tried to enter the entertainment industry.

She started the interview saying that a news anchor's job is not an easy one and it requires a lot of learning and training. She said, "It may look lime news anchoring is an easy job for people who look from the outside. But it requires lots of professional training. We cannot call it a day right after finishing reading news. We have to write scripts, do voiceovers, and also keep ourselves updates about the latest happenings so that we can perform well when we have to interview people."

Speaking of casting couch, she said, "There was no issue when I entered media. So I thought it would the same in cinema industry, too. So I wanted to try my shot. So many people warned me not to try. But I did nevertheless. Only after getting into the industry I came to know all the difficulties in the industry. Several filmmakers wanted me to 'adjust' to get roles in the movies. I had to fight and struggle a lot to get roles in movies."

She added, "While some filmmakers directly asked me to 'adjust,' other indirectly brought up the subject. Some filmmakers even body shamed me by commenting about my skin colour." SHE Added, "And finally after a lot of trial, I landed the oppertunity to play the role in Thunivu. I am hopeful that this breakthrough will pave way for more movies and more opportunities. But only time will answer what future holds for me."
