Sangeetha was born in Srilanka and her family was settled in London. She came to Chennai in 1996 and met Vijay. According to the report in Sakshi, Janany was quoted saying, "I was elated beyond worlds when I got an opportunity to sit next to him. Never did I imagine that Vijay would talk to me. He told me that I reminded him of his wife when I spoke in a Sri Lankan Tamil accent. Sangeetha is also from Jaffna. He treated me like his own sister and was very friendly."
