Vijayakanth Death: DMDK Leader To Be Cremated With State Honours; Deets Inside

Renowned Tamil actor Vijayakanth aka Captain Vijayakanth is no more with us now. The actor turned politician, who was the founder of DMDK political party, breathed his last today (December 28) at a private hospital. It was reported that he was hospitalised earlier this week after he was diagnosed with pneumonia. However, he tested positive for COVID 19 lately and had difficulty in breathing following which Vijayakanth was put on ventilator.

Soon, the news of Vijayakanth's unfortunate demise surfaced. It was reported that he passed away 71. The news of his demise was confirmed by the hospital in a statement which read as, "Captain Vijaykanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he passed away in the morning on 28th December 2023".

While the social media has been abuzz with tweets and posts paying tribute to the late actor, it is reported that Vijayakanth's funeral will take place tomorrow in Chennai. It is reported that while Vijayakanth's mortal remains were taken to his residence in Virugambakkam, it will be placed at the DMDK office for party workers and volunterrs to pay their last tribute to the renowned politician. It is also reported that Vijayakanth will be cremated with state honors.

Meanwhile, all shootings have been cancelled tomorrow in wake of Vijayakanth's funeral. In fact, several celebs have taken to social media to mourn Vijayakanth's demise. Kamal Haasan took to the micro-blogging site Twitter (now X) and wrote, "எனது அன்பிற்கினிய சகோதரர், தேசிய முற்போக்குத் திராவிட கழகத்தின் நிறுவனத் தலைவர், தமிழ் சினிமாவின் தனித்துவம் மிக்க நடிகர், கேப்டன் என்று அனைவராலும் அன்பு பாராட்டப்பட்ட விஜயகாந்த் அவர்களின் மறைவுச் செய்தி மிகுந்த துயரத்தைத் தருகிறது.

தன் ஒவ்வொரு செயலிலும் மனிதநேயத்தைக் கடைப்பிடித்து வாழ்ந்தவர். தமிழ்நாட்டு அரசியல் வெளியில் புதுத்திசையிலான நம்பிக்கையை உருவாக்கியவர். எளியோருக்கு நீளும் உதவிக்கரம் கொண்டிருந்தவர். எதற்கும் அஞ்சாத துணிச்சல் அவரது அடையாளமாக இருந்தது. சினிமா, அரசியல் இரண்டு தளங்களிலுமே தடம் பதித்த புரட்சிக் கலைஞர் விஜயகாந்த் நம் நினைவுகளில் என்றென்றும் நிலைத்திருப்பார்.
