Vijayakanth Passes Away: The REAL Reason Behind DMDK Founder’s Death Will Leave You Shocked

As the nation is gearing up for the New Year 2024 celebrations and is taken over by the holiday vibes, the Tamil film industry came up with a most heartbreaking news this morning as legendary actor Vijayakanth breathed his last on December 28. He was 71. For the uninitiated, Vijayakanth aka Captain Vijayakanth, who was a part of around 154 films, was quite popular in Tamil cinema for his role of a police officer and wore the uniform in 20 films.

Besides, after a successful career in showbiz world, he also carved a niche for himself in politics and was the founder and president of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Political party. And while Vijayakanth enjoyed a massive fan following, the news of his unfortunate demise has sent a wave of shock and grief across the Tamil film industry.

According to media reports, Vijayakanth was hospitalised lately after he was diagnosed with pneumonia. And while the senior actor was undergoing the treatment for the same, it was reported that he tested positive for Corona virus (COVID 19) and was put on ventilator support this morning. He also reportedly having difficulty in breathing.

The news of his demise was confirmed by the hospital in a statement which read as, "Captain Vijaykanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he passed away in the morning on 28th December 2023".

To note Vijayakanth was earlier hospitalised in November this year owing to respiratory illness and was discahrged later. On the other hand, as Vijayakanth was hospitalised again lately, renowned actor Suriya had sent him recovery wishes and tweeted, "Wishing brother Vijayakanth a speedy recovery. Like me, several of his fans are praying for his well-being and he will definitely recover and bounce back soon."
