Indian 2: Shankar Says, 'Just Like Superman & James Bond, Senapathy Is Our Own Superhero;' Filmmaker Opens Up

Senapathy Is Our Superhero, Says Shankar: The day is just a couple of hours away as Shankar's much-hyped and awaited sequel starring Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan-starrer 'Indian 2.' The movie is going to hit the screens worldwide on July 12 in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. The movie is titled Bharateeyudu 2 in Telugu and the expectations are sky-high on this Anirudh Ravichander's musical.

Indian 2 is being released in standard and IMAX formats. The movie's advance bookings are showing positive signs for its opening day and if the movie scores a decent word-of-mouth, it is expected to become a clean hit as people are interested in what the director has in store for them from the Indian film which was released in 1996, becoming an industry hit by earning Rs 60 Crore.

Indian 2 Synopsis

Senapathy, who was shown alive during the climax of the first part, is now in Hong Kong. He decides to return to India after learning that the country is still being overpowered by corruption and injustice.

Shankar Talks About Senapathy & Makeup

In one of the media interactions promoting Indian 2 aka Bharateeyudu 2, Shankar spoke at length about the film which was in the making for about four years. Speaking about the comments on makeup for Senapathy's character, the 'Game Changer' director said, "When we are filming Indian in 1996, there was a thick prosthetic makeup which concealed the expressions of Kamal Haasan while emoting. He is one of the best actors in the world but I couldn't capture the expression like I wanted. But, today, due to advancements in makeup, the layers are thinned. Now the facial expressions are clear.

For Indian 2, I want to show Senapathy with bald makeup and a hunchback but I decided against it because I don't want the character to be weak. Senapathy represents the anger of a common man and he shouldn't be weak. Just like Superman and James Bond, we have a superhero in the form of Senapathy."

Bharateeyudu 2 Cast
This vigilante action film sequel stars Kamal Haasan as Veerasekaran Senapathy aka Indian. In addition, the movie stars S.J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Nedumudi Venu as Krishnaswamy IPS, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Brahmanandam, Zakir Hussain, Piyush Mishra, Guru Somasundaram, Delhi Ganesh, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Deepa Shankar, Anant Mahadevan, George Maryan, Vinod Sagar, Akhilendra Mishra, and Benedict Garrett among others in key roles for various versions. Late Vivek, G Marimuthu, and Manobala will be part of the film as the makers wanted to leave their portions intact.

Bharateeyudu 2 Crew
Written and directed by S Shankar, the sequel titled Indian 2 is being helmed by Subaskaran Allirajah and Udhayanidhi Stalin under their Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies banners on an approximate budget of Rs 250 Crore. Ravi Varma is cranking the camera and A. Sreekar Prasad is the film's editor. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the film's entire background score and music.
