Jyotika Defends Suriya's Kanguva Amidst Negative Reviews; Praises It As A Cinematic Spectacle

Jyotika Defends Suriya s Kanguva Amidst Negative Reviews

Jyotika Defends Suriya's Kanguva: In a heartfelt Instagram post, actress Jyotika expressed her surprise and disappointment at the wave of negativity surrounding her husband, Suriya's, latest release, Kanguva. The Tamil epic fantasy action film, directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green and UV Creations, has received mixed-to-negative reviews since its release on November 14, 2024. In her post, Jyotika responded not as the wife of Suriya but as a lover of cinema, defending the film's ambitious storytelling and its cinematic achievements.

Jyotika began by acknowledging the criticism surrounding the film, particularly the first half-hour, which she admitted had its flaws. "Definitely the first half hour doesn't work and the sound is jarring!" she wrote, emphasizing the film's experimental approach. She pointed out that imperfections are part of most Indian films, especially when directors push boundaries, and she felt that this flaw was being unfairly magnified. Despite the rough start, she praised the rest of the film, calling it "an absolute cinematic experience."

Jyotika Slams Unfair Criticism of Kanguva

One of Jyotika's main points of contention was the negative reviews from media outlets and certain factions of the film industry, whom she felt were being unfairly critical. She compared Kanguva to other big-budget films that had received praise despite their predictable narratives, outdated themes, and problematic content. "I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it's not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age old stories, where women are stalked, double meaning dialogues are spoken and have the most over the top action sequences." she wrote.

In her post, Jyotika also called attention to the positives of the film, including the powerful women's action sequence in the second half and the young boy's portrayal of love and betrayal. She felt that these aspects were overshadowed by the negative reviews and that the film's efforts deserved recognition.

Jyotika also praised the technical aspects of Kanguva, particularly its camera work and execution, which she described as "never before seen in Tamil cinema." She credited director Siva and the team, particularly cinematographer Vetri Palanisamy, for their groundbreaking work in bringing the film to life in 3D and IMAX formats.

Kanguva follows the journey of a fierce tribal warrior, portrayed by Suriya, whose mysterious connection with a small child from 1070 is intricately linked to a bounty hunter and another child in 2024. Despite its ambitious visual spectacle and a strong star cast, which includes Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, and K. S. Ravikumar, the film has struggled to win over both critics and audiences.

In her concluding remarks, Jyotika criticized the negative reviews of the film and expressed her appreciation for the team behind Kanguva. 'Be proud, Team Kanguva, as those commenting negatively are doing just that and nothing else to their credit to uplift cinema!' she wrote.

As the film continues to screen in theaters in multiple formats, it remains to be seen whether audience reception will shift in its favor as word-of-mouth spreads.
