It is reported that Kamal Haasan will be seen playing the role of Kali in Kalki 2898 AD. According to a report published in 123Telugu, Kamal Haasan will be seen in a negative role in Kalki 2898 AD which will be the modern version of Kamsudu or Kamsa who was the son of Yadava ruler Ugrasena.

Meanwhile, as Kalki 2898 AD will reportedly chronicle some events of the Mahabharata in the year of 3102 BC, Nag Ashwin in his interaction with Deadline stated that the movie "does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus". He further asserted, "We can take it as extremely religious or we can take it as the story of somebody who was born with a lot of power, didn't know what to do with it, and found his mentor in the process".
