Nadigar Sangam Appoints Rohini As ICC Chairperson

Nadigar Sangam Strengthens Internal Complaints Committee to Address Sexual Harassment: The 68th general body meeting of the Nadigar Sangam, formally known as the South Indian Artistes' Association, took place today in Chennai, marking a significant step in the organization's ongoing efforts to tackle issues of sexual harassment within the industry.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Nadigar Sangam President M. Nassar, General Secretary Vishal, Treasurer Karthi, Vice Presidents Ponvannan and Karunas, and renowned actress Rohini. Nassar announced that an internal complaints committee, which was established in 2019, has been bolstered with Rohini appointed as its chairperson. The committee is tasked with addressing and resolving complaints related to sexual harassment, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken against offenders.

Following the meeting, Rohini addressed the media in a press conference, emphasizing the committee's commitment to handling complaints with utmost seriousness. "Since its inception in 2019, the internal complaints committee has received and resolved several issues. However, recent reports, including the Hema committee findings, have highlighted critical matters that necessitate a more rigorous approach. We have decided to intensify the committee's activities and investigations to address these concerns effectively," Rohini stated.

Rohini Announces Expanded Scope And Strict Measures

Rohini highlighted that the committee is open to all individuals, not just actors and actresses, encouraging anyone with a complaint to come forward. "We have established a dedicated phone number and email address for reporting grievances. There should be no hesitation in reaching out to us. We are committed to ensuring that no form of abuse will be tolerated, and those found guilty will face significant consequences, including a five-year ban from the film industry. We will also be submitting a formal request to the producer's association to reinforce this stance," she added.

The decision to make the internal complaints committee more effective was made during a Nadigar Sangam meeting held last week. This move underscores the organization's determination to create a safer and more supportive environment for all members of the film industry.

The Nadigar Sangam's latest initiatives reflect a growing commitment to addressing and preventing sexual harassment, promising a more accountable and responsive system for handling such serious issues.
