Suriya Opens Up About Moving To Mumbai With Jyothika, Says, 'She Needs Her Time, Lifestyle, & Her Parents..'
Suriya Says Jyothika Is The Reason Behind Moving To Mumbai: Suriya, the undisputed star who receives immense love and praise for his body of work from across the states, is gearing up with his career's biggest and best yet film, Kanguva. The actor is taking part in a whirlwind of promotional activity to take this mega project to all nooks and corners of the country.
Speaking for Bollywood media, Suriya finally spoke about what was the acutal reason behind moving to Mumbai. In an interview with Anupama Chopra, he spoke at length about their relocation to Mumbai. Anupama asked, "Is it true that you moved to Bombay because Jyothika was working on a web series, which I think is just amazing by the way if it's true.."
Suriya completely opened up and said, "No I can be very open and I can say this. At the age of 18-19, she shifted to Chennai. For almost another 27 years she was in Chennai. She was with me and my family and she gave up her family, her career, her relatives, her friends, her Bandra lifestyle. She is happy spending time here she is happy spending time with her parents again. I think whatever a man needs, a woman also needs that. I think I am very late in understanding all that.
She needs those vacations, she needs those friends, she needs her financial independence, she needs respect and she needs her gym time, she needs her fitness, her lifestyle, whatnot. Whatever we crave, I think they equally need it.
Why take away her time from her parents and her lifestyle and what she loves to do? And when are we making that change? Why it is always I, me, myself. I am also happy to see her growth as an actor here.
My kids are also in IB schools. There are only 1 or 2 IB schools in Chennai. It is a blessing when kids are studying well. We saw good opportunities here and there are many IB schools here. So we shifted. I am balancing between Chennai and Bombay. I take off ten days a month. I don't mind working 18 or 20 hours a day for the rest of the 20 days in a month. For 10 days I don't do anything. There is no appointment or phone call there is no office office happening here. I might meet my work friends or otherwise, I am happy to take my daughter out for a park or an ice cream or a drive, take my son for Basketball."
Jyothika and Suriya tied the knot in 2006 after a very long time of being in love. Suriya's family had taken some time to accept the inter-culture and inter-religion marriage. Their wedding nuptials took place in the traditional Hindu-Tamil style ceremony.
After their marriage, Jyothika moved in with her husband who lives with his father, actor Sivakumar's family. Later when Karthi got married, his wife also entered the joint family setup.
Suriya and Jyothika have two children who are now teenagers. At first, there was a buzz about how the education of Dev and Diya played a prominent role in their decision to move to Mumbai. Their 2D Productions banner established on the names of their children will continue to work with Chennai as its base.
On the other hand, Kanguva, written and directed by Siruthai Siva, is going to hit the screens in five languages on November 14 worldwide. Disha Patani and Bobby Deol played key roles in the movie which has its music and score composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
