Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Flag Update: Election Commission Addresses Complaint Over Elephant Symbol

Vijay s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam TVK Flag Update

Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Flag Update: The Election Commission of India has formally addressed the Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) request to prohibit the use of the elephant symbol on the official flag of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a political party recently founded by actor Vijay. This response comes in the wake of the BSP's assertion that the elephant symbol is integral to their party's identity and should be removed from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's flag.

On February 2, Vijay made headlines by announcing the establishment of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and his intention to contest in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. Following this announcement, the party unveiled its official flag and anthem on August 22. The flag features a striking design, with dark red at the top and bottom and a vibrant yellow in the center. Notably, it includes two war elephants raising their trunks, a vaagai flower, and 28 stars, symbolizing the party's aspirations and heritage.

In response to the BSP's complaint, the Election Commission issued a letter clarifying its stance. The Commission stated that it does not approve or certify the symbols or images used by political parties. Additionally, it emphasized that under the Prevention of Misuse of Symbols and Names Act of 1950, political parties bear the responsibility to ensure their symbols adhere to regulatory standards.

The Election Commission reaffirmed that it is the duty of each political party to ensure compliance with these regulations. Notably, the Commission also indicated that it sees no issue with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's flag, thus affirming the party's right to use its chosen symbol without interference.

This development has drawn attention within political circles, as Vijay's entry into politics adds a significant dynamic to the Tamil Nadu political realm. The controversy surrounding the use of the elephant symbol highlights the ongoing competition among political parties in the region as they vie for voter support.
